BANAS CUMIN
BANAS CUMIN
Our cumin is complex, with earthy, smokey, piney notes and naturally high volatile oils thanks to the intense heat of the Rann of Kutch. The result: deeper aroma, richer flavor, and a lingering finish that holds its own next to bold dishes.
Farmer Devji Patel strengthens his soil through year-round crop rotations of garbanzo beans, peanuts, sorghum, pearl millet, pomegranates

RECIPE IDEAS
"My idea of cumin's flavor was forever changed when I had Banas cumin. The potent scent can be felt without even opening the jar." - Mara F.
OUR PARTNER FARMER, DEVJI PATEL, FROM DUNGALA IN GUJARAT
Devji comes from a family of multi-generational farmers. He is eccentric and the only farmer in his village and surrounding areas to grow cumin organically (not an easy task by any means – more on that later). He makes his own natural fermented microbial culture (which smells horrendous), uses vermicompost, cattle manure, rotates crops seasonally, and more to create a biologically active soil that feeds micro-organisms which continuously improves the soil structure. He hopes to inspire other farmers to pick up organic farming.
Devji earns 3× the local market rate through our direct-trade partnership.
