Our cumin is complex, with earthy, smokey, piney notes and naturally high volatile oils thanks to the intense heat of the Rann of Kutch. The result: deeper aroma, richer flavor, and a lingering finish that holds its own next to bold dishes.

Farmer Devji Patel strengthens his soil through year-round crop rotations of garbanzo beans, peanuts, sorghum, pearl millet, pomegranates

"My idea of cumin's flavor was forever changed when I had Banas cumin. The potent scent can be felt without even opening the jar." - Mara F.

OUR PARTNER FARMER, DEVJI PATEL, FROM DUNGALA IN GUJARAT

Devji comes from a family of multi-generational farmers. He is eccentric and the only farmer in his village and surrounding areas to grow cumin organically (not an easy task by any means – more on that later). He makes his own natural fermented microbial culture (which smells horrendous), uses vermicompost, cattle manure, rotates crops seasonally, and more to create a biologically active soil that feeds micro-organisms which continuously improves the soil structure. He hopes to inspire other farmers to pick up organic farming.

Devji earns 3× the local market rate through our direct-trade partnership.

Not all Cumin is created equal!

Solid bright traditional cumin flavor —however this seed delivers sparks of deliciousness that makes my Aloo Gobi Matar sparkle with freshness.

      Incredible

Koshna's Banas Cumin is the most aromatic and flavorful cumin I've ever had! Redolent with herbaceous, slightly earthy, and toasty notes, the smell of it straight from the jar reminds of my grandmother's cooking. All other cumin pales in comparison, and I'm not sure I can ever go back. Thank you Dharti for your care and dedication in sourcing the best spices directly from skilled farmers and sharing their unique stories.

This Cumin is not a want, it's a NEED

I have a confession: I was never a fan of cumin. I avoided it in recipes, left it out whenever I could, and just didn’t understand the appeal. But everything changed when I met Koshna's Cumin.

The turning point wasn’t just the cumin itself, but the captivating story behind it. Learning about Dharti’s deep relationship with cumin and the care that goes into every seed completely transformed my perception. The moment I opened the jar and caught the first whiff, I realized all the cumin I’d encountered before was just a pale imitation.

Koshna’s Cumin is rich, earthy, and aromatic—truly the real deal. Now, I find excuses to use it in almost everything. Whether I’m toasting the seeds to unlock their depth or grinding them fresh in my mortar and pestle, it’s a sensory experience I look forward to every time.

Consider me a convert. Koshna’s Cumin has turned a former skeptic into a lifelong enthusiast. If you think you don’t like cumin, trust me—this will change your mind.

BEYOND 5 Stars, because anything less wouldn’t do it justice!
